IP-protocol based telephony network service development by software process.
M.Sc. thesis, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Oulu, Finland (in Finnish).
This thesis work presents a guideline framework for supporting the software
development of IP-based telephony services. The guidelines improve the
following stages of an object-oriented software development process:
requirement specification, analysis, and architectural design. The
guideline-framework presents the following features to be defined: telephony
services environment, detailed composition and deployment of services into
the environment. A list of questions has been formulated to support the
definition task.
A Java-based software development toolkit was implemented to apply the
guidelines. The toolkit is used to develop IP-telephony network signalling
components. The toolkit was used to build the telephony network's basic
components, which accept user registrations, relay signaling messages, and
enable the real-time monitoring of users' presence status. The guidelines
were applied to a software project for developing a multi-user conferencing
service. The conferencing service was targeted for use by MediaTeam research
group personnel. Service development was a part of the Duchess research
project.
Use of the guidelines aided in the resolution of technical problems in the
conferencing service and they were used for preliminary estimates of the
impact of the new service to the environment.
