Description

The DECICOM project focuses on the research and development of novel technology enablers for distributed mobile applications and services, and the new type of business scenarios around them. In the center of the studies are the real-life protocol-level prototypes providing communication framework for peer-to-peer (P2P) and hybrid P2P-Client/Server communication scenarios. A concrete creation, testing and deployment environment will be built to serve as a platform for end-user based feasibility and performance evaluations.

Research questions include how to optimally use the P2P- and Client/server-type networks for application-level communication from the perspective of different parties, such as end users, service providers and mobile operators. The measured variables include user experience, system-level functionality and performance, and revenues for the different parties.

The project aims to have concrete influence to global standardization of the essential enabling technologies, including e.g. P2PSIP and IMS. For enabling this, DECICOM consortium and partners include many of the most powerful companies and universities in the mentioned standardization areas. Thus, DECICOM project is in a forefront position of the development and standardization of the technologies in project focus areas.
