Funding for the third All-IP project year and for the CAPNET II program
The National Technology Agency (Tekes) has granted funding for the third year of the All-IP project and for the second year of the CAPNET II program including two projects, Challenger and Experiments.
During the third project year, researchers will concentrate on further developing the functions of the application platform designed and prototyped during the first and the second project years, and especially demonstrating new applications implemented with the platform.
The research will produce further information about the capacity and restrictions of the platform and the network in question, and about the possibilities of new supernetworked applications. The applications utilise for example navigation information and peer-to-peer groups.
The project is conducted jointly between MediaTeam, the Intelligent Systems Group and the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The industrial partners are Nokia, TeliaSonera, Elektrobit, IBM and Serv-It. Erkki Harjula works as a project manager and Professor Mika Ylianttila as a responsible director.
Within the CAPNET program, context-aware systems will be further developed and new demonstrations designed. Special attention will be paid to resource management / leasing and dynamic, context-aware assembling the components. Also Japan cooperation started earlier will be improved.
The researchers taking part in the projects work in the different research groups of the University of Oulu: MediaTeam, Intelligent Systems group, and INTERACT (Department of Information Processing Science). Also two foreign research institutes participate in the research: Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, and University of Maryland (USA). Industry partners are Capricode, IBM, Nokia, Serv-It, TeliaSonera, and TietoEnator.
