CAPNET - Tourist Information
RFID tags are used to offer context-aware services for tourists. Location and time contexts are used to offer bus timetables and map service to the target. The services for the targets are described by using visual logos with RFID tags. By touching the tags the services are shown on the browser of the phone. Physical user interface improves interaction. No need for writing long URLs.

By touching the RFID tag located at the side of a screen or a keyboard it is possible to move a part of the interface of an application working on a phone to the device that is touched. This allows for example typing a message on the keyboard and reading the writing from the screen

CAPNET - Connection management
The type of connection used (WLAN, GPRS) can be switched without interrupting the copying or transfer of a . le. Respectively, if a connection is lost altogether, the copying of a . le can be temporarily interrupted and continued automatically after the connection is re-established. The transfer of a .le can be managed and performed as a so-called distance function to another computer.

CAPNET - Instant Messaging
The context of both the sender and receiver of a message is utilised in concluding whether a person is available or not (presence). A user of the CAPNET IMing application can communicate with the users of IBM Lotus Sametime system.

Linking images to each other by digital watermarks
The program returns watermarks corresponding to user keys from an image loaded into it. The watermarks contain general metadata related to image as well as chronologically arranged links to the previous and next image of a certain image chain and to a higher quality colour image.

Video retrieval system
This is the system with which MediaTeam annually participates in the international TRECVID conference. The system utilizes features computed from digital video material and uses them to evaluate similarities between video clips. The features are computational values derived from colour, sound and movement, and they are combined with semantic descriptions formed from the clips. On this basis the computer makes comparisons between different video clips and returns the clips that best correspond to the example to the user.

Video browser of the future
Science Centre Tietomaa´s new exhibition called Oulu Expo demonstrates also a prototype application for the digital home video recorders developed by MediaTeam.

The application facilitates searching from the video records using novel content-based access and browsing technology. The video storage utilised in the demonstration contains Finnish news from the Northern Finland, a 16-hour collection from Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE recorded in 22.3. - 11.8.2004. In the demonstration news can be searched using keywords and browsed by visual similarity of the video clips.

The demonstration portraits how research in technology will affect an everyday life by simplifying the creation and management of the video, text and image archives. At present, homes with commonly used tape recorders are replacing them with digital video recorders. In the future, these devices will incorporate smart search technology that will greatly alleviate the process of discovering the relevant video recordings.

The system being exhibited at Oulu Expo can now be demonstrated also in the MediaTeam premises at Linnanmaa.
